The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) seized fake cosmetic products worth approximately one crore taka from Dhaka’s Chawkbazar and Mirpur areas. Laboratory tests found dangerously high levels of hydroquinone—up to 2,793 times more than the approved limit—posing severe health hazards including skin cancer, liver, and kidney damage. Brands such as Ensign, Skinlight, Myfair, and Miracle were among those tested. BSTI fined the responsible companies four lakh taka in total and instructed them to obtain proper licenses before further marketing their products.
