The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) of Bangladesh has issued arrest warrants against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 30 others in connection with two enforced disappearance cases that allegedly took place during the Awami League government’s tenure. According to the Tribunal Registrar’s Office, the arrest warrants have been sent to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and 12 major defense and intelligence departments, including the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), National Security Intelligence (NSI), Army Headquarters, and the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division.
Chief Prosecutor Advocate Tajul Islam confirmed the development, stating that the warrants were dispatched to the concerned authorities on Wednesday. Earlier, the Tribunal-1 accepted formal charges and ordered the arrests of 30 accused individuals, including five former DGFI chiefs and Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
The accused face five specific charges under two separate cases—one related to the Task Force for Interrogation (TFI) Cell and the other concerning the Joint Interrogation Cell (JIC). Following the issuance of formal charges, the accused will no longer be allowed to hold any official positions under the amended law of the International Crimes Tribunal. The move marks one of the most significant legal actions in recent years against a former Bangladeshi premier and top officials.
