Following the incident, the Khatib released a video statement acknowledging the police findings and admitting that he occasionally experiences mental disturbances, noting similar episodes had occurred in the past.Despite the police clarification, the initial false abduction report had severe, negative societal repercussions. The Minority Unity Alliance in Bangladesh, coordinated by the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, issued a strong condemnation of the aftermath. They noted that certain communal groups had immediately seized upon the initial report to launch a coordinated campaign of misinformation across the country. These extremist sectarian forces used the incident as a pretext to incite hatred, particularly targeting the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and the broader Hindu community with threats of violence, temple vandalism, and the destruction of deities. This campaign has created significant fear and insecurity among religious minorities, particularly ahead of the upcoming national election.

Acting Police Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan confirmed that while the core facts of the staging had been established, the case remains under investigation. The police are continuing to verify Mohibullah’s statements to determine if any other person or group was involved or if he acted under external influence, vowing that appropriate legal action would be taken upon final clarification. The Minority Unity Alliance expressed profound grievance over what they termed the "mysterious silence" of the government and administration regarding the subsequent communal incitement.

The alleged kidnapping of Mufti Mohammad Mohibullah Miyaji, 60, a prominent religious figure serving as the Khatib of the T&T Colony Jame Mosque in Tongi, Gazipur, has been declared a self-staged incident by the Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP). This dramatic conclusion was revealed during a press conference held at the GMP headquarters on the morning of October 28, 2025, following a comprehensive investigation into the sensational case.Mufti Mohammad Mohibullah Miyaji initially came into the spotlight after being found in a state of disorientation and distress in Panchagarh, approximately 400 kilometers away from Gazipur. He was reportedly rescued by local residents who contacted the national emergency helpline (999), leading to his recovery by the Sadar Police Station. Following primary medical care at Panchagarh Sadar Hospital, he was repatriated to Gazipur with the assistance of the Tongi East Police.

The official police account began when Mohibullah filed a case at the Tongi East Police Station on October 24, 2025, formally alleging his abduction. In his detailed case statement, he claimed that the incident occurred on October 22 while he was out for a morning walk. He alleged that his path was intercepted by an ambulance, from which four to five men forcibly abducted him with the intent to kill. The Khatib further claimed he was blindfolded with a black cloth and physically assaulted during the ordeal. However, the GMP’s intensive investigation, led by an experienced team, quickly uncovered significant inconsistencies in the Khatib’s narrative. Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations), Mohammad Taherul Huq Chauhan, stated unequivocally at the press briefing that there was "no evidence of any abduction" upon reviewing CCTV footage and digital tracking data. The police team collected CCTV footage from numerous points between Mohibullah’s residence and the alleged scene of abduction, meticulously cross-referencing this with data from digital tracking sources. The investigation found no sign of any ambulance movement during the three-hour period mentioned by Mohibullah, nor any struggle or forced entry at the locations he cited. The official police findings presented a starkly different sequence of events. The investigation showed that Mohibullah was seen alone, alighting from a vehicle at the last bus terminal in Panchagarh between 11:30 pm and midnight on October 22. Further CCTV footage captured him walking independently near key landmarks, including the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and the District Police Lines area. He was then seen proceeding towards a dark area by the roadside, where he paused before stopping to urinate. The police detailed how, due to illness, Mohibullah’s clothing (pyjama and panjabi) became wet, prompting him to remove them himself. Crucially, the police revealed that he then found a small chain with a lock "lying nearby," which he voluntarily tied around his own leg before falling asleep by the roadside. The statement confirmed: "He had chained his own leg and was lying down. The entire narrative he gave after being rescued was fabricated." Upon waking up, he found himself at the hospital, and in a disoriented state, he reportedly provided incoherent statements to those who interacted with him.
