According to unverified but widely circulated claims, a significant mobilisation of Islamist groups is reportedly underway in Dhaka and surrounding districts. The reports allege that Brigadier Hasan Nasir and Colonel Hasib, along with several other retired army officers, have overseen large-scale fresh training programs for more than 20,000 members of Hizb ut-Tahrir and Islami Chhatra Shibir. Additionally, around 8,000 Shibir cadres have allegedly been inducted into various branches of the police force.Sources further claim that modern weapons have been brought into Bangladesh from Turkey using Pakistani ships, although no official confirmation has been provided. In total, nearly 85,000 Islamist militant cadres—associated primarily with Hizb ut-Tahrir and Shibir—are said to have been strategically positioned in and around Dhaka.
According to the circulating narratives, Jamaat-e-Islami has reportedly taken these preparations in anticipation of potential unrest following an expected verdict against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. It is alleged that if the Awami League launches any form of armed resistance, and if the military or police fail to support them, these cadres would act to “secure” Dhaka.More alarming allegations suggest that Jamaat-e-Islami may be planning countrywide violence or mass killings similar to those witnessed in 1971, should a major political movement erupt. No state agency has officially verified these claims, and authorities have yet to issue a formal response.
